Trauma Informed Yoga

A Therapeutic Wellbeing & Mindfulness Intervention.

Trauma Informed Yoga improves wellbeing from the inside out. The bespoke intervention focuses on recognising and understanding physical sensations in the body. It promotes empowerment, self-esteem and agency – including student voice.

Sometimes, we do not know how we are feeling in our body. This can lead to not feeling safe in our body. It can be tricky to use words to explain how we are feeling.

By bringing awareness to the body and observing whether it feels tensed or relaxed, energised, or tired, and so on, we can begin to understand what our bodies may need to regulate and to feel different.

For example, if we are feeling tense, we may need to engage in breathing exercises or we may need to move our bodies to discharge energy.

When we experience different emotions, our bodies also experience different sensations. For example, when we are sad, we may feel a heaviness in our chest, when we are feeling anxious, we could feel an ache in our tummies, when we are angry, we might notice that our heart is racing and can feel out of breath.

Drawing on elements of mindfulness, meditation and trauma-informed yoga, we can calm our minds and regulate our physical responses. Carefully selected tools and techniques can lead to a greater awareness of emotions, too.

Each session will be tailored to each child’s needs. Interventions are delivered in groups, as individual sessions, or as outreach workshops for children and families.
